Apple is reportedly working on a next-generation version of the AirTag, which Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman expects will launch around the middle of next year.
Speaking in his weekly Power On newsletter on Sunday, Gurman says Apple has started to trial manufacturing runs with partners in Asia, with the new version of the tracker slated to receive improved location tracking and a new Apple-designed U-series chip for enhanced Precision Finding.
Gurman claimed earlier this year that “Apple retail store back rooms and Apple device storage warehouses are still full to the brim with AirTags,” leading to the launch of a new version being postponed until 2025.
Apple launched the original AirTag in 2021. The small tracking device is designed to help users locate their belongings. Using Bluetooth and Apple’s Find My network, it allows users to attach the AirTag to items like keys or bags and then track their location using the Find My app on their Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad and Mac.
